This Breitling contains the Cal 12 automatic winding chronometer chronograph. The movement was developed first as the Cal 11 by an association of Buren-Hamilton, Breitling, Dubois-Depraz, and Heuer-Leonidas in 1969. The movement was offered in watches by each of the manufacturers. It was used in the now popular Heuer Autavia for example. In 1972, the movement was upraded to the Cal 12 at 21600 bph to achieve true chronometer standards. The winding/setting stem is on the left rather than right. This was done intentionally to make the watches stand out from other chronographs of the time. Turning the bezel activates a small internal gear that rotates the outer dial ring for time and speed calculations. The chronograph functions as a 24 hr timer with two sub-dials. This watch is in excellent condition with near mint case, movement, bezel and dial. The only sign of its true age is a slight yellowing of the luminous markers. All functions working correctly as you can see in this video. Size is large at about 51mm x 49mm. The bracelet is a new aftermarket high quality solid link model in the Breitling style, and fits perfectly. The Breitling box is not original to the watch but authentic Breitling "Yellow" box.
